Tartine Bakery is growing! We’re thrilled to announce our upcoming opening in Strawberry Village, Mill Valley, CA., in the 2nd QTR of 2026.
We’re looking for an experienced Sous Chef to lead this new location's BOH operations, embody our hospitality values, and help deliver the distinct Tartine experience with familiar comforts presented in a way you’ve never experienced before, from a warm loaf of bread to a perfectly brewed cup of coffee.

About the Sous Chef Role
- The Sous Chef supports the Chef in leading kitchen operations, preparing high-quality dishes, and ensuring an exceptional dining experience. This role includes maintaining food standards, ensuring cleanliness, and upholding health and safety regulations while upholding the restaurant’s mission and guest satisfaction goals.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support daily kitchen operations, ensuring food quality, consistency, and presentation.
- Assist with menu execution, food preparation, and expediting during service.
- Train and supervise kitchen staff on cooking techniques, safety, and sanitation.
- Help manage food costs, inventory, purchasing, and portion control.
- Collaborate with the Chef on menu development, recipes, and new initiatives.
- Maintain effective communication with team members, front-of-house staff, and management.
- Monitor compliance with health, fire, and labor regulations.
- Address guest feedback and resolve food or service issues.
- Inspect kitchen areas to ensure cleanliness and operational efficiency.
- Assist with scheduling, ordering, receiving, and equipment maintenance.
Timekeeping Responsibilities
- Accurately clock in/out and record breaks using company timekeeping software.
- Follow attendance and scheduling policies, including proper reporting of absences or missed punches.
- Ensure compliance with all labor laws and payroll accuracy.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum five years of experience in professional kitchens (food prep, line cook, etc.).
- Strong culinary skills, including advanced knife handling and food safety knowledge.
- Effective communication and leadership abilities.
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and professional kitchen environment.
